The City of Mackay is situated in the southern part of the Anglican Diocese of North Queensland. There were three Parishes in the city – Mackay, West Mackay and North Mackay.
Mackay Parish was the first Parish. Its church, Holy Trinity, was built on the current site in 1870/71, while the current Holy Trinity church was built in 1926/27.
The Parish of West Mackay was formed in February, 1957. The current church building,
St Charles was consecrated in 1984.
On 1 January, 1961 the Parochial District of St Ambrose was formed with the first church located in Palmer St. In 1965 the Parochial District was declared the “Parish of North Mackay”.
St Ambrose church in Glenpark St was built in 1976 and consecrated in 1984.
In March, 2015, The Right Reverend Bill Ray held a meeting of the Clergy and Churchwardens from the three Mackay City Parishes, Mackay, West Mackay and North Mackay – the groundwork for a Regional Anglican Cluster began. It was agreed that the three Parishes would work cooperatively to grow the Kingdom of God in Mackay City.
With its new name, the “Mackay Anglican Cluster” was launched by The Right Reverend Bill Ray on 4 December, 2016 at St Ambrose Church.
The Cluster encompasses Mackay City, the rural and beach areas north to Calen and the townships of Nebo and Glenden.
